Hello, Gate Rulers!

In this article we're going to solve some of the frequent questions (and some questions that you've asked) about how several cards interacts with each other or with the rules, or the rules itself of the game. Read them carefully!

Rules question
Q: Is it possible to play a unit from your hand even if all of your zones are full?
A: Yes, it is possible.

Explanation: When doing a normal summon, you are allowed to summon the unit in one of your zones already occupied by another unit, unless there is some restriction involved that specifies otherwise. If you do normal summon a unit into a zone already occupied by a unit, then once the new unit enters play, then the pre-existing unit is put into the graveyard during the next time rules effects are resolved.

A7 "Duchess" the Brawler (2021GB03-046)
Q: If the unit chosen for the "Roaring Thunder Wave" ability deals combat damage to an enemy unit, does it lose the increase to its STK?
A: No, dealing combat damage to an enemy unit does not remove the increase to STK from this ability.

Akagi of the Centipede (2021GB03-066)
Q: If an opponent plays a High-Power Phaser at 0 cost due to Discount, can you still use this card’s "Thank you for your business!" ability?
A: Yes, since Discount doesn’t actually reduce the level of the card, High-Power Phaser remains a level 2 event. Hence, you can play this unit’s “Thank you for your business!” ability in response.

Aras, Guardian of the Divine Winds (2021GB03-004)
Q: When using the "Return from Valhalla" ability, can you special summon a face down unit in your damage zone?
A: No. A face down card in your damage zone loses all information printed on its other side, hence no longer fulfills the conditions required by this ability.

Ascendant's Wrath (2021GB03-053)
Q: Can you play this event even if there is no effect damage currently in the gate?
A: Yes, you can play this event regardless.

Bio Corps Predabear (2021GB03-093)
Q: If your opponent plays a High-Power Phaser at 0 cost through Discount, can you use this unit’s "Beware of Bear" ability in response?
A: No, Discount does not change the actual level of the card being played, hence High-Power Phaser is still trated as a level 2 event.

Captain Zombie (2021GB03-035)
Q: When an opponent’s attempt to normal summon or special summon this unit is placed into the gate, can you play your set cards in response?
A: Yes. This unit's "Gumshoe's Instincts" ability is placed into the gate only when the unit enters play. Hence, this ability is not in the gate until after this unit is successfully summoned, so any set cards can still be played normally.

Custodius, the Indomitable Guardian (2021GB03-044)
Q: Does the +1 increase to STK from the "Moonlight Howling" ability also get applied to the STK of this unit?
A: Yes, this unit’s STK will also get increased by +1.

Q: If a unit has both OWL and Beast attributes, does it gain +2 STK?
A: No, even if a unit has both of the two relevant attributes, it only gains +1 STK.

Dark Knight Gododdin (2021GB03-005)
Q: What is Deadly?
A: Deadly is a keyword ability that causes a unit that was dealt combat damage by a unit with this ability to become destroyed at the end of the combat.

Q: When another unit attacks a unit with Deadly, does the attacker get destroyed at the end of the combat?
A: No, Deadly’s effect only triggers when the unit with the ability deals combat damage, so it doesn’t do anything when this unit is attacked.

Q: If an attacking unit with Deadly is destroyed before combat ends but after dealing combat damage, is the effect of Deadly still triggered?
A: Yes, Deadly requires only that the unit with the ability deals combat damage to another unit. Whether the unit with Deadly is still left in play after the combat damage is dealt has no bearing on whether Deadly goes off.

Q: If a unit with Deadly attacks a unit but the combat damage dealt is reduced to 0, is Deadly’s effect still triggered?
A: No, if 0 combat damage was dealt, then it counts as not having dealt any combat damage, hence Deadly’s effect is not triggered.

Q: If a unit with Deadly deals combat damage through Intercept, is the effect of Deadly triggered?
A: Yes, because Intercept counts as combat damage, the effect of Deadly is triggered.

Dark Knight Vamel (2021GB03-008)
Q: Can you use the "Spacetime Contortion" ability while this unit is in play?
A: No, you can only use this ability while this is a card in your hand.

Draconic Armageddon (2021GB02-001)
Q: Is it possible to destroy a set card with the [CNT] ability of Draconic Armageddon? The ability is written as: "Choose 1 of your opponent's cards in play of level 2 or less and destroy it."
A: No, it is not possible.

Explanation: Whether a card that is not revealed has any particular property is uncertain. Hence, it cannot be affected by any effect that requires a certain property as a condition for its application. An opponent's set card placed face down is not revealed to the player using the [CNT] ability of Draconic Armageddon. Hence, it is not guaranteed to fulfill the condition of being "level 2 or less", and therefore it cannot be affected by this ability.

Draconoid Dreadnaught "Aramisaki" (2020GB01-066)
Q: I have declared the use of my Draconoid Dreadnaught "Aramisaki"'s "Mana Reactor Cannon" ability, choosing a Aether Ray Gun in my set zone as its cost. Can I play this Aether Ray Gun as an instant action before it gets sent to the graveyard as a cost for the "Mana Reactor Cannon" ability?
A: No, you may not.

Explanation: The cost of using the ability on Draconoid Dreadnaught "Aramisaki" is to "Put 1 of your event cards in play into your graveyard.". It does not actually destroy the event card, and at the point you've played the ability and spent its cost, the card is already in the graveyard and not in your set zone. Hence, if the card you used for the cost was Aether Ray Gun, it is no longer in a set zone, so cannot be played.

Draconoid Dreadnaught "Fuse-Ikazuchi" (2021GB03-057)
Q: Does "All of your Military cards gain +1 STK" mean that this unit also gains +1 STK?
A: Yes, this unit itself will also get +1 STK.

Embrace of Eons (2021GB03-034)
Q: What is Discount?
A: Discount is a keyword ability that allows you to pay an alternative cost for a card as you play it instead of the normal resource cost for its level.

Q: If you play this event through its [CNT] ability, can you do the action(s) for its Discount?
A: Yes. Discount is dealt with "as you play" this card, so you can perform the action(s) listed if you wish.

Q: Can you use Forbid on a card of level 2 or greater that has been changed to cost only 1 resource (or less) due to the effects of a Discount?
A: No, Discount doesn’t actually reduce the level of the card being played, hence it will not be a valid target for Forbid.

Q: Can this event be played even if none of your set zones are empty?
A: Yes, events that say "This event can also be played from your hand" can be played without being placed in a set zone first, just like any event with "Timing: Standard Action".

Q: Can this event's "until the start of the next turn, that unit loses all abilities" effect cause a unit with an ability that says "this is not affected by any of your opponent's effects" to lose all of its abilities?
A: No, that unit’s "this is not affected by any of your opponent's effects" ability gets higher priority. Hence, the chosen unit does not lose all of its abilities, and the damage does not get dealt to it.

Q: If you play this event and choose a unit like Dai-Jinki, the Three Regalions Combined that has an ability that says "this is not affected by any of your opponent's effects", does the chosen unit still lose all abilities and take 5 damage?
A: No, that unit’s "this is not affected by any of your opponent's effects" ability gets higher priority. Hence, the chosen unit does not lose all of its abilities, and the damage does not get dealt to it.

Emergency Fusion NOW!!! (2020GS01-015)
Q: Does the unit placed on top with Emergency Fusion NOW!!! carry over the damage and any "until the end of turn" effects that were on the unit placed underneath? Is there anything else that is carried over to the unit on top?
A: The only things that get carried over from the bottom unit is its ready/exhaust state, and whether it is currently attacking or not.

Explanation: The card "put on top" should be basically treated as a brand new card in play. So any damage or effects that were applied to the bottom unit are not carried over to this unit put on top, and any cards or abilities that had been played with the bottom card as their target do not get to switch their target to the top card. However, the card placed on top will have the same ready/exhaust state as the card it is placed on top of. If the bottom card is a unit and is currently attacking, the card placed on top will enter play already attacking, targeting the same column as the bottom unit was.

Exo-Armor Tank Unit Masuraoh-02 (2020GB01-074)
Q: When using Exo-Armor Tank Unit Masuraoh-02's [CNT] ability ("Special summon 1 'Exo-Armor Trooper Masuraoh-01' from your deck into your attack zone."), if you have 0 Exo-Armor Trooper Masuraoh-01 let in your deck, is it possible to:
-look at your deck and shuffle it?
-not look at your deck and not shuffle it?
As a player using the ability, are you able to choose between the two options above?
A: No, the card requires you to look at your deck and shuffle it.

Explanation: Anything written in the text of an effect must be carried out to the fullest extent possible unless it specifically says "(you) may". Since Exo-Armor Tank Unit Masuraoh-02's [CNT] ability doesn't say "You may special summon", you must carry out all of the steps of the special summoning that you are currently capable of. Exo-Armor Tank Unit Masuraoh-02's [CNT] ability, which says "Special summon 1 'Exo-Armor Trooper Masuraoh-01' from your deck into your attack zone.", actually means "Special summon 1 'Exo-Armor Trooper Masuraoh-01' from your deck into your attack zone. Then, shuffle your deck.". If you do not have any copies of Exo-Armor Trooper Masuraoh-01 left in your deck, you cannot do the actual special summon part of the effect, but you are still able to perform the "Then shuffle your deck." portion of the text, so you must carry it out.

Exosuit Titan Gashadokuro (2020GB01-065)
Vamha (2020GB01-125)

Q: Let's say you summon a Vamha while your opponent has an Exosuit Titan Gashadokuro with at least 1 charge in play. If you choose Exosuit Titan Gashadokuro as the target of Vamha's ability to add the chosen unit underneath it as a charge, can the opposing player use Exosuit Titan Gashadokuro's Charge Shield] ability to instead keep it where it is currently is?
A: Yes, they can.

Explanation: The charge zone is a different zone from "in play". Since Charge Shield is an ability that prevents a card from moving to a different zone, its use here is completely valid. By using its Charge Shield ability, Exosuit Titan Gashadokuro does not get moved to the charge zone, and hence does not get added as a charge to Vamha.

Fell Dragon Temple (2021GB03-027)
Q: If you have 3 or more copies of this field in play, can you use each of their "Offer Tribute" - Turn 1 abilities once per turn?
A: No, if an ability has Turn 1 printed before the first colon after its name, you cannot play an ability with the same name more than once a turn. Hence, once you use this ability on the first card, you cannot use the same abilities on the other cards.

Festival of Flowing Lanterns (2021GB03-081)
Q: While this field is in play, can you play a card in your damage zone with Schrödinger's Cat?
A: No. Because this field prevents cards in a damage zone from moving into any other zone, you cannot play any of the cards in your damage zone.

Q: While this field is in play, does Schrödinger's Cat’s [CNT] ability ("Choose 1 card in your graveyard and 1 card in your damage zone. Swap the chosen cards.") not get resolved?
A: No, if the player who played Schrödinger's Cat’s [CNT] ability has at least 1 card each in both their graveyard and damage zone, they still must choose 1 card in each of those zones. Then the card chosen in the graveyard is put it into the player's damage zone. However, that player cannot take the card chosen in their damage zone and put into their graveyard, so that part is skipped.

Fool's Moon (2021GB02-121)
Sword of Destiny (2020GB01-124)

Q: When playing Fool's Moon's "Night Sky Imposter" ability, if you choose a Sword of Destiny in your graveyard as its target, can you play the chosen card?
A: Yes, it is possible to play a Sword of Destiny using Fool's Moon's ability.

Explanation: According to Rule 14-5c of the comprehensive rules, if a [CNT] ability that has been triggered instructs you to play the card it is written on, you play the card itself instead of the original [CNT] ability. This is the same with Sword of Destiny's [CNT] ability, so when it is used, you will instead be playing Sword of Destiny as a card rather than just its [CNT] ability. If you choose Sword of Destiny with a Fool's Moon's "Night Sky Imposter" ability, you will be using the Sword of Destiny's [CNT] ability when resolving the "Night Sky Imposter" ability. This will add the Sword of Destiny itself to the gate (i.e. waiting to be resolved). Once Sword of Destiny's [CNT] ability is played, Fool's Moon's "Night Sky Imposter" ability will attempt to put the chosen card (the Sword of Destiny) on the bottom of your deck. However, because that card is currently in the gate rather than your graveyard (and Fool's Moon's ability doesn't specify that it follows the chosen card even if it leaves the graveyard), the chosen Sword of Destiny does not get placed on the bottom of your deck, instead remaining in the gate.

Full Armor Vastorus Rex (2021GB03-031)
Q: At the end or the turn that this entered play through Abyssal Summoning, does it lose its Defender?
A: Yes, this unit will no longer have Defender.

Gaiatron, Titan of the Land's Vengeance (2021GB03-012)
Q: Can you perform this unit’s Discount more than 4 times?
A: Yes, but its reduced cost will remain at 0.

Hound of Tindalos (2021GB03-111)
Q: "If you're playing an Endbringer card from your hand, you may remove this card in your graveyard from the game. If you do, the card you're playing costs 1 less to play."--does this mean that when you are playing an Endbringer card, you can remove 2 copies of Hound of Tindalos from your graveyard to pay 2 less resources?
A: Yes, you can remove 2 or more copies of Hound of Tindalos from your graveyard to reduce the resource cost of the next Endbringer card you play by the same amount.

Húlí of the Spider Lily (2021GB03-060)
Q: When special summoning a unit from your deck with this unit’s Genesis Summoning ability, can you only special summon a unit with a level equal to or less than the combined level of the materials?
A: No. This unit’s Genesis Summoning does not specify the level of the unit to be special summoned. As long as the unit to be special summoned is a Deity, Dragon, or Demon Lord of Volnar or the Yomajin Front, it can be of any level.

Q: When this unit is discarded from your hand and you special summon this unit through its "Famine’s Relief" ability, does this unit get special summoned from your graveyard?
A: Yes. This unit card will be placed in your graveyard first, then it will enter play from there.

Q: When this unit enters the graveyard because it was destroyed by an enemy unit’s attack, does the "when this is put into a graveyard from play" ability get played?
A: Yes, this ability must be played.

Q: When you put this unit into the graveyard while summoning another unit, does "when this is put into a graveyard from play" ability get played?
A: Yes, this ability will get played.

In the Afterglow (2021GB03-078)
Q: For this event’s "-<[DR 5]>. If you do, choose 1 Divine Relic unit in your damage zone and special summon it" option, can you special summon a Divine Relic unit in your damage zone that is face down?
A: No, a face down card in your damage zone is treated as having none of the information printed on its other side. Hence, it is no longer a Divince Relic unit and cannot be a valid target for this effect.

Lucifer, the Lightbringer (2021GB03-030)
Q: What is a SR (Superior Rare)?
A: SR (Superior Rare) is a new type of card rarity. Unless specifically restricted by the deck construction rules of your ruler, they can be included in any deck just as any other normal card.

Q: What is Sentinel Summoning?
A: Sentinel Summoning is a keyword ability that allows you to normal summon a unit card in your hand during your opponent’s turn as an instant action. Because it’s a normal summon, you still have to pay the cost of the unit as normal.

Q: When an enemy ruler or unit attacks your ruler and you use Sentinel Summoning to put this unit into your defense zone as an instant action, does the attacker attack this unit instead?
A: Yes, the target of the attack is changed to this unit in the defense zone.

Q: "When this enters play, deal 5 damage to all units. This damage cannot be reduced."—does this mean that this unit also takes this damage?
A: Yes. The text specifies "all units" which means all units currently in play, including this one. Thus, this unit will also be subject to this effect damage.

Q: "When this enters play, deal 5 damage to all units. This damage cannot be reduced."—can you play Rite of Redirection against this ability to set the damage to 0?
A: No. "This damage cannot be reduced" prevents the damage from being changed to less than its original value. This is true regardless of which player is playing Rite of Redirection.

Q: If a unit has an ability which says "this is not affected by any of your opponent's effects" (e.g. Dai-Jinki, the Three Regalions Combined), does it take any effect damage that says "this damage cannot be reduced"?
A: No. Functionally, "this is not affected by any of your opponent's effects" does not reduce the effect damage; instead, the effect damage is not applied to it at all. Hence, units with this ability will ignore any damage from effects even if they say "this damage cannot be reduced".

Q: If a player has a G&G Armament Factory in play and they put this unit into play either in their attack or defense zone, is the damage dealt to all units increased to 6?
A: Yes, the damage dealt to all units is increased to 6, and none of it can be reduced.

Q: What is DR (Damage Reversal)?
A: DR (Damage Reversal) is a game action in which a player is instructed to flip a specified number of face up cards in their damage zone face down, usually to pay some kind of cost.
For example, if you are instructed to DR 3, you must select 3 cards in your damage zone that are face up, and then flip them face down. A face down card in your damage zone still counts towards your damage, but it is treated as if it has absolutely no information, including whatever is printed on its other side. This includes the card’s name, type, and any attributes. Because of this, a face down card cannot be chosen or affected by anything which calls for a card with a specific characteristic in a damage zone.

Malevolus Prime, Crimenauts Don (2020GB01-096)
Heddie Headhunter, Syndicate Recruiter (2020GS01-012)

Q: Let's say that while you have a Malevolus Prime, Crimenauts Don in play, you drive a Heddie Headhunter, Syndicate Recruiter. After using Heddie Headhunter, Syndicate Recruiter's ability to exchange control of it and an enemy unit, you destroy Heddie Headhunter, Syndicate Recruiter in your opponent's play area with a Suppressive Fire. In this scenario, will your Heddie Headhunter, Syndicate Recruiter be added as a charge to your Malevolus Prime, Crimenauts Don?
A: No, it will not.

Explanation: When a card references "you", it is referring to the current controller of that card. Hence, the line written in Malevolus Prime, Crimenauts Don's card text, "Whenever another Crimenauts card you have in play would be put into a graveyard" actually means "Whenever another card with the Crimenauts attribute controlled by the same player that controls this Malevolus Prime, Crimenauts Don would be put into a graveyard". When your opponent has gained control of your Heddie Headhunter, Syndicate Recruiter through its [OD] ability, then now your opponent is the controller of that Heddie Headhunter, Syndicate Recruiter. Hence, when this Heddie Headhunter, Syndicate Recruiter is destroyed, it does not count as a "another card with the Crimenauts attribute controlled by the same player". Therefore, it does not get added as a charge to your Malevolus Prime, Crimenauts Don.

Maxwell's Demon (2021GB03-097)
Q: While you have this field in play, can you choose a level 2 unit for Weirdship Black Antlion’s "Black Hole Field" ability?
A: Yes, you can.

Megidos the Damned, Draconic Abomination (2021GB03-109)
Q: If your opponent played a High-Power Phaser at cost 0 through its Discount, could you negate that event through this unit’s "Erased Potential" ability?
A: No. Discount does not change the actual level of the card being played, so High-Power Phaser remains a level 2 event.

Minotaur Desperado Sirloyn (2021GB03-098)
Q: If you played this unit through Schrödinger’s Cat and enters play, can you use its ability that says "When this enters play from anywhere besides a damage zone, then choose 1 'Minotaur Desperado Chuck' in your damage zone and special summon it"?
A: No, you cannot. When you play a card in your damage zone and put it into play, it is treated as having entered play from a damage zone.

Q: If you have 3 copies of Minotaur Desperado Sirloyn in play, do their "Taurian Stomp!" ability grant each one +1 STK?
A: No, "Taurian Stomp!" requires you to have 3 units in play with a different name for each but all include "Minotaur Desperado" in them.

Mortana, Witch of Grim Tidings (2021GB03-010)
Q: Can you use this unit’s "Master of Sorcery" of ability even when playing a level 0 event?
A: Yes, but the resource cost you have to pay remains at 0.

Q: If you are playing an 15. O - Overlord as your ruler and you use the "Master of Sorcery" ability to reduce the cost of an event you’re playing to 0 or less, do you still pay 1 resource to play the event?
A: Yes, 15. O - Overlord’s ability always changes the cost of any card you play normally to exactly 1 resource, regardless of how many times you do DR with the "Mastery of Sorcery" ability.

Nurikabe of the Wall (2021GB03-076)
Q: When you have this unit in play, can you destroy an enemy unit with Defender through Blazing Dai-jin Sword!?
A: No, your opponent’s units all lose Defender, so Blazing Dai-jin Sword! can only destroy an enemy unit if it is in a defense zone.

Oni of the Tatari (2021GB03-055)
Q: Does the text "This can only attack the center column" allow this unit to attack an enemy unit in a defense zone?
A: Yes, it can.

Q: When you attack with this unit, if you suddenly get 1 or more cards added to your hand, does this unit lose Triple Attack and remain exhausted?
A: Yes, if 1 or more cards are added to your hand before this combat ends, this unit will lose Triple Attack and not ready itself.

Q: Does this unit’s [CNT] ability cause it to enter play under your control first, then your opponent gains control of it?
A: Yes, this unit will enter play under your control first, then it will switch sides as your opponent is given control of it.

Ox Oni Mugoku (2021GB03-074)
Q: "As this would be put into a graveyard from your set zone because of an opponent, you may instead special summon it."—does this mean this unit first enters the graveyard and is special summoned from there?
A: No, it is special summoned before it enters the graveyard.

Ox Oni Tenkai (2021GB03-072)
Q: When you see this card on top of your deck through a "Hundred Yokai March" ability, can you treat its level as being its printed value rather than 0?
A: No, it must be treated as being level 0 for the purposes of resolving that "Hundred Yokai March" ability.

Parzival (2021GB03-054)
Q: Let's say one of your units has been dealt effect damage equal to or greater than its HP through an ability or card like ZAPZAPZAP!. Can you play this event on that unit to keep it from being destroyed?
A: No, the unit is still destroyed. It has taken damage equal to or greater than its HP, even if that damage was effect damage dealt by a card or ability.

Rey Gargora, Bane of Sorcerers (2021GB03-003)
Q: Does DR 4: Beast or Darkness mean that you can only flip over cards with both Beast and Darkness attributes to pay this cost?
A: No, each card you flip face down only needs to have at least 1 of the 2 listed attributes.

Rite of Ophidian Reincarnation (2021GB03-068)
Q: Can you play this event even if you have no Supernatural units in your graveyard?
A: Yes, you can play this event while having no Supernatural units in your graveyard.

Q: Can you play this event even if your opponent has no cards in play?
A: Yes, you can play this event even if your opponent has nothing that they could put into the graveyard.

Q: Do you decide the targets for "special summon 1 Supernatural unit in your graveyard" and "your opponent puts 1 of their cards in play into the graveyard" as you play this card?
A: No, these do not count as choosing a target, so both choices are made while the card is being resolved.

Q: Let's say you are resolving the "put 1 allied unit into the graveyard" part of this event. If you avoid putting your selected allied unit into the graveyard through something like Charge Shield, do you still perform everything written after "If you do"?
A: No. Since you were unable to completely carry out the initial "put 1 allied unit into the graveyard" part, everything written after "If you do" is ignored.

Q: When resolving the "your opponent puts 1 of their cards in play into the graveyard" part, can the opponent choose a <Heddie Headhunter, Syndicate Recruiter> in play that they are the owner of but is currently controlled by you?
A: No, they cannot. They must choose a card in play that they control. This does mean your opponent can choose a card that you are the owner of but is currently controlled by them. This applies to any set cards as well.

Q: For the "your opponent puts 1 of their cards in play into the graveyard" part, can the opponent choose to put a unit that has an ability that says "this cannot be chosen by your opponent's events or abilities" (e.g. Goldenscale Paladin)?
A: Yes, the "your opponent puts 1 of their cards in play into the graveyard" portion does not count as choosing a target for the purposes of playing this event. Hence, the opponent can still select a unit even if it "cannot be chosen by your opponent's events or abilities", and it is then placed into the graveyard.

Schrödinger, Spirit of the Singularity (2021GB03-087)
Q: Are units that are face down in your damage zone also affected by the "Multiverse Familiars" ability?
A: No. Face down cards in your damage zone are treated as having none of the information printed on their other sides, including whether they are units. Hence, "Multiverse Familiars" is not applied to them.

Q: If a face down unit in your damage zone gets flipped up after you play "Multiverse Familiars", does it also gain the declared attribute?
A: No, "Multiverse Familiars" only grants the declared attributes to units in your damage zone that are face up at the time that the ability is played.

Q: If a unit in your damage zone that was granted a new attribute by "Multiverse Familiars" gets flipped face down afterwards, does it lose the added attribute?
A: Yes, when a card in a damage zone is flipped face down, it loses all of its information, which includes anything that was added to it through effects.

Schrödinger's Cat (2020GB01-098)
Q: Is it possible to play a Blaze Vortex in your damage zone by playing a Schrödinger's Cat as a standard action, ignoring the Timing on Blaze Vortex? (i.e., Is it possible to use its effect to "Destroy all enemy units not in the center column." during the main phase?)
A: Yes, it is possible.

Explanation: The Timing: section of an event card is only referenced when the event card is played through normal means. Hence, it is ignored when playing the event card through some kind of effect. If an event card gets played by a card effect or some other means, it can always be played unless it is restricted due things like not having a valid target to be chosen. Therefore, it is entirely possible to play a Blaze Vortex in your damage zone with Schrödinger's Cat.

Shadow of Hades (2020GB01-032)
Q: When you special summon a Shadow of Hades with Abyssal Summoning while you have a Interdimensional War in play, is it possible to special summon an OWL unit with Shadow of Hades's ability that is currently in your damage zone, by putting it into your graveyard through healing life with the effect of Interdimensional War?
A: No, it is not possible.

Explanation: When Shadow of Hades is special summoned through an Abyssal Summoning, this triggers both Shadow of Hades's automatic ability which is conditioned on it entering play, and the automatic ability of Interdimensional War, which is conditioned on you accomplishing an Abyssal Summoning. As the player who controls both cards, you can choose what order they get resolved in. However, Shadow of Hades's automatic ability requires you to "choose 1 level 0 OWL unit in your graveyard", so you must choose a valid target upon playing this ability, not when it gets resolved. At the point of playing the above ability, Interdimensional War's automatic ability has not been resolved yet, so the OWL unit you have in your damage zone has not yet been placed in your graveyard. Therefore, at the point when Shadow of Hades's ability is actually played and you actually have to choose its target, the OWL unit in your damage zone is not a valid target, so you cannot choose to special summon that.

Shinno Akugoro, King of the Renegades (2021GB03-058)
Q: If this unit would be destroyed through damage but remains in play through its "Lord of the Ayakashi" ability, does the damage it had accumulated get set to 0?
A: Yes, if a unit that would leave play somehow remains in play instead, then any damage it had accumulated during that turn is set to 0.

Shiori Laudia, Imperial Magus (2020GB01-006)
Q: Let's say you have a Guiding Paladin at level 1, a Dark Knight Delthor, and a Shiori Laudia, Imperial Magus in play. When declaring the use of Shiori Laudia, Imperial Magus's Genesis Summoning ability, do you declare what units you will be using right at that moment?
A: No, you do not.

Explanation: When you declare the use of a Genesis Summoning, you do not immediately declare which units you will be using as materials. To use Shiori Laudia, Imperial Magus's Genesis Summoning ability, you first declare its use, which puts the ability into the gate, then perform its cost action, which is sending the materials from play to the deck. Then you wait for any responses. Your opponent doesn't get an opportunity for any responses until the materials already have left the field. If your opponent wants to stop you from doing Genesis Summoning by destroying potential materials, they must do that before you use the Genesis Summoning ability.

Showdown: Adriano VS Shadowhand (2021GB03-095)
Q: Let's say you special summon Space Journalist Krystel through this event’s effect. Since Space Journalist Krystel has an ability ("Look at the top 2 cards of your deck. From among them, if there are any cards that can be set, you may set 1 of them. Put the remaining cards on the bottom of your deck.") that is marked with both [TD] and [OD], does that mean you can use it twice?
A: No. If a unit special summoned with this event has an ability with both [TD] and [OD], it still can only be played once. Likewise, if the special summoned unit has 2 separate abilities with [TD] and [OD] respectively, then the player resolving the event must choose which one to play.

Q: When you special summon 2 units with this and each one has a [TD] or [OD] ability, which player decides in what order those abilities are placed into the gate?
A: The player who played the event decides which order the [TD] or [OD] abilities of the special summoned units are added to the gate.

Skulvitch, Dungeon Butler (2021GB03-014)
Q: Do you have to show the card you added to your hand with this unit’s "Rise & Shine, My Lord!" ability?
A: Yes, in order to confirm that the card you want to add to your hand actually matches the conditions specified by the ability, you must reveal it to your opponent first.

Q: When you use "Rise & Shine, My Lord!" ability without any cards in hand, can you still add a Demon Lord card to your hand from your deck?
A: No. If you cannot discard a card from your hand, everything printed after "If you do" in the card’s text is not performed, so you cannot search for a Demon Lord card in your deck.

Skystrike Arrow (2021GB03-011)
Q: Let's say your opponent’s Mistwyrm, Clock Tower Guardian’s "Potentiality Transfer" ability is in the gate. If you use this card’s "-Choose 1 enemy card in play and put all of its charges into the graveyard" option and reduced your opponent’s available charges to 1 or less, can your opponent not ready a unit or ruler through the effect of "Potentiality Transfer"?
A: Yes, they will not be able to ready a unit or unit through "Potentiality Transfer" since they don’t have the required 2 charges to put on the bottom of the deck.

Q: Let's say your opponent’s Malevolus Prime, Crimenauts Don’s "Devastator Beam" ability is in the gate. If you use this  card’s "-Choose 1 enemy card in play and put all of its charges into the graveyard" option and reduced this Malevolus Prime, Crimenauts Don’s charges to 0, does the "Devastator Beam" in the gate do nothing when it gets resolved?
A: No, the act of putting 1 of Malevolus Prime, Crimenauts Don’s charges on the bottom of its owner’s deck is a cost that is paid as the "Devastator Beam" ability is played. Hence, when the ability is actually resolved, the cost is already paid, so it doesn't matter how many charges that Malevolus Prime, Crimenauts Don has left.

Q: Let's say your opponent has Vastorus Rex, Fell Dragon Quadrarch of Ruin and 5 other Darkness cards in their graveyard, and they declare the use of their Abyssal Conductor Alighieri’s Abyssal Summoning ability. What happens when you use this field’s "-Choose up to 2 cards in your opponent's graveyard and remove them from the game" option to remove 2 of their Darkness cards in their graveyard from the game?
A: First, the opponent’s Abyssal Conductor Alighieri is put into the graveyard due to the effect of its Abyssal Summoning. But then the opponent cannot special summon Vastorus Rex, Fell Dragon Quadrarch of Ruin, since the requirements for its Abyssal Concerto cannot be fulfilled. However, if there is another unit in their graveyard with an Abyssal Concerto that can still be fulfilled, the opponent can special summon that unit instead.

Soulgrinder Hex (2021GB03-016)
Q: If you play this event while there are no abilities of an enemy unit in the gate, can you still choose 1 unit in play to make it lose all of its abilities until the start of the next turn?
A: No, this event is required to choose 1 ability in the gate, and it can only negate the abilities of the unit that the ability belonged to.

Q: If your opponent used Dark Knight Vamel’s "Spacetime Contortion" ability from their hand, can you use this event to negate it?
A: No, this event can only negate the ability of a unit in play. Since Dark Knight Vamel is not in play when using its "Spacetime Contortion", it cannot be negated by this event.

Space Yurei (2021GB02-108)
Q: If a player playing a Knight or Wizard draws a Space Yurei after already using up their summon cap, at what point does Space Yurei get summoned?
A: That player must play Space Yurei immediately after drawing it.
Explanation: Any card with Forced Reveal is always required to be played immediately if it enters a hand or drive zone. Even if the player does not have enough resources to pay for the card, or they have already used up their summon cap, they must still play the card after paying as much of its cost as they can. Therefore, even if your summon cap is used up, if you draw a Space Yurei, you must play it immediately regardless.

Q: If a player's Space Yurei gets destroyed and sent to the graveyard while it was under their opponent's control, which player gets the life heal effect?
A: The opponent (the last player controlling Space Yurei) does.

Explanation: Unless otherwise specified, abilities are executed by their controller. The controller of an ability is the same player as the controller of the card to which the ability belonged to. When someone takes control of a card, then that player immediately becomes the card's controller. When resolving an automatic ability of a card that is triggered when the card is placed in the graveyard, it actually references the state of the card while it was still in play. If Space Yurei is placed into a graveyard from play, its "Arrivederci" ability gets played by the player who was its most recent controller while it was still in play. In the above scenario, Space Yurei's controller while it was in play was the opponent, hence its ability gets played by the opponent. As a result, the opponent is the one who heals 1 life.

Starship Captain Ed (2021GB03-084)
Q: Can you use the "Space Archaeology" ability to play an event even if it’s outside of the event’s Timing?
A: Yes, this ability allows you to play an event regardless of its Timing.

Sword of Bruncvík (2021GB03-051)
Q: If you played this event against an Exosuit Titan Gashadokuro with 1 charge, would the Exosuit Titan Gashadokuro be destroyed?
A: Yes. When this event’s effect is properly resolved, each of the 2 damage being dealt gets added to the gate separately. When the first 2 points of damage get resolved, the Exosuit Titan Gashadokuro’s charge is put into the graveyard through Charge Shield. The Exosuit Titan Gashadokuro will then be dealt another 2 damage, destroying it and sending it to the graveyard.

Q: If you play this event while you have 1 G&G Armament Factory in play, does that mean each time this event deals damage, it deals 3 damage instead of 2?
A: Yes. After dealing 3 damage to a unit, the event will deal another 3 damage to that same unit.

The Apocalypse Now (2021GB02-043)
G&G Armament Factory (2020GB01-039)

Q: While a player has The Apocalypse Now in effect, what happens to the combat damage they deal to an enemy unit that cannot be affected by any effects of an opponent?
A: The combat damage will be doubled.

Explanation: The effect of The Apocalypse Now is to simply double any damage that is dealt during its duration. Resolving this effect actually does not reference the enemy unit being dealt damage in any way, hence effects like "This is not affected by any of your opponent's effects" are not applied to it.

Q: How does a damage reduction effect get resolved while The Apocalypse Now is in effect?
A: Apply the damage reduction after doubling the damage.

Explanation: As mentioned previously, The Apocalypse Now doubles the amount of damage to be dealt after its value has been decided normally and a corresponding damage resolution process has been added to the gate. Damage reduction reduces the amount of damage for a particular damage resolution process that is currently in the gate. Hence, damage reduction always happens after the damage is doubled, and never vice versa

Q: While The Apocalypse Now is in effect and G&G Armament Factory is in play, what happens to the damage of effects like ZAPZAPZAP! that divide damage among multiple targets?
A: Divide the damage from the effect among the specified targets as normal, then double the damage dealt to each target when the damage resolution process is added to the gate. For example, if you play a ZAPZAPZAP! while you have a The Apocalypse Now in effect and 1 G&G Armament Factory in play, you still divide 7 damage among 1 or more enemy units. If you choose to deal 2 damage each to two units and 3 damage to a third unit, then the first two take 4 damage each and the third unit takes 6 damage.

Explanation: The effect of The Apocalypse Now doubles the amount of damage to be dealt after 1.) its value has been decided normally, and 2.) a corresponding damage resolution process has been added to the gate. Hence, you should still refer to the base damage when dividing up damage among multiple targets. The base damage is increased by effects like that of G&G Armament Factory, but it is not affected by <The Apocalypse Now>'s effect.

The Golden Blade (2021GS03-008)
Q: When you play a The Golden Blade through its [CNT], if you have no level 3 Dragon in play, can you still destroy an enemy unit with The Golden Blade’s effect?
A: Yes, you can.

Explanation: The Timing: section of an event card is only referenced when the event card is played through normal means. Hence, it is ignored when playing the event card through some kind of effect. If an event card gets played by its [CNT] ability or any other effect, it can always be played unless there is no valid target. Therefore, you can play and resolve The Golden Blade through its [CNT] even if you don’t have a level 3 Dragon in play.

Vabelcion, the Battle-Forged (2021GB03-002)
Q: When using Shiori Laudia, Imperial Magus’s Genesis Summoning ability, can you only special summon this unit if the combined total level of the materials is 4 or greater?
A: Yes, the total level of the materials must be 4 or higher.

Q: When you are about to place a card from your hand on the bottom of your deck for this card’s Discount, do you reveal that card to your opponent?
A: Yes, you must reveal it first before putting that card on the bottom of your deck.

Q: When using this unit’s "Göndul's Barrage" ability and targeting an opponent’s set card, can the opponent then play the chosen card in response if its a card with "Timing: Instant Action"?
A: Yes, it is possible for the opponent to play the chosen card if the card can be played as an instant action. Even if they do and this ability does nothing, the cost you paid for it (DR 3) is not undone.

Van Reign, Grand Dragon Pentarch of Blades (2021GB03-001)
Q: Can you summon this unit if you have 1 or less normal summons left before you hit your summon cap for the turn?
A: No, you cannot normal summon this unit unless you are allowed to normal summon at least twice before you reach your summon cap for the turn.

Zahira, Nature's Emissary (2021GB03-015)
Q: When you use this unit’s Abyssal Summoning, do you put this unit into the graveyard?
A: No, it does not instruct you to put this unit into the graveyard, so you do not.

Zombie Kaizer (2021GS04-003)
Q: In regards to Zombie Kaizer’s Enhance ability, it reads as "As this enters play, you may choose 1 allied Zombie unit to add underneath this as a charge". When you have no Zombies in any of your attack or defense zones and you play Zombiepocalypse through its [CNT] ability, can you Enhance Zombie Kaizer through choosing to special summon it and a level 0 Zombie unit from your graveyard with Zombiepocalypse?
A: No, both units enter play simultaneously, so you cannot add your other Zombie unit as a charge to Zombie Kaizer through Enhance.

Explanation: Unless otherwise specified, when instructed to put multiple units into play, they enter play simultaneously rather than one at a time. This is true for Zombiepocalypse, and both chosen Zombie units enter play at the same time. However, Enhance requires that the unit to be added as a charge must be in play before the unit with Enhance enters play. Hence, you cannot use Enhance on another unit entering play simultaneously.
